THE APPLICATION OF NEW REMOTE SENSING TECHNOLOGIES IN THE MAYA LOWLANDS This talk focuses on the use of new remote sensing technologies in the investigation of the ancient Maya landscape. Included in this discussion is the use of AIRSAR elevation data and GeoEye-1 satellite imagery. The authors use a combination of digital image processing methods to improve the detection of archaeological sites and other cultural features. Examples include the use of various techniques to sharpen spatial resolution, the use of filters to detect linear features, and vegetation classification algorithms, with the objective of designing future field projects.
